What Working with Scentsible K9 Actually Looks Like

Most dog owners don't know what to expect from a training relationship — which can make it hard to know if what you're experiencing is normal or if something isn't working. This page lays out the honest picture of what working with us looks like from start to finish.

The short version: it starts with understanding, builds through consistency, and produces results that hold up outside the training session. The longer version is below.

The Consultation

Every relationship starts with an in-person assessment ($100, credited toward any package). We observe your dog, ask about history and challenges, and build a clear picture before recommending anything.

The Plan

After the consultation, you get a specific training plan built for your dog — not a generic program. It addresses what's actually driving the behavior, not just the visible symptoms.

The Sessions

Sessions happen in the environments where your dog actually needs to perform. We coach you in real-time, adjust based on what we observe, and give you clear homework for between sessions.

Between Sessions

This is where most of the progress happens. What you do consistently between sessions determines how quickly results accumulate. We make the between-session work clear and manageable.

WHAT PROGRESS ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE

Progress in behavior training isn't linear, and it rarely looks the way people expect. Here's what to watch for:

  • Early signs: faster recovery after reactions, better ability to settle, more moments of calm in previously difficult situations
  • Middle progress: reduced intensity of reactions, improved reliability in familiar environments, more consistent response to cues
  • Later progress: reliable behavior in previously difficult environments, genuine confidence in situations that used to be overwhelming
  • The long game: a dog who can handle real life — not just perform in training sessions

How We Approach It at Scentsible K9

  • Being direct about what we observe and what we think will actually help
  • Adjusting the plan when something isn't working instead of pushing harder on the same approach
  • Teaching you to understand your dog's behavior so you're not dependent on us forever
  • Celebrating real progress — including the quiet, unsexy shifts that matter most

Common Questions

FAQs

What do I need to bring to the consultation?
Just your dog on a leash and yourself. Bring treats your dog likes. Have notes on specific behaviors you're concerned about if that helps you remember everything you want to cover.
How long is a session?
Consultations are typically 60-90 minutes. Training sessions are generally 45-60 minutes depending on the program.
What if my dog doesn't perform during a session?
That's information. A dog who can't perform in a session is telling us something about their current state. We work with what's in front of us.
How often will we meet?
Frequency depends on your dog's needs and your schedule. Most clients see meaningful progress with weekly or bi-weekly sessions and consistent daily practice between them.
What if I don't see progress?
We have that conversation directly. Stalled progress means something needs to change — in the approach, the environment, or the application. We figure out which.
