Training in a controlled environment is only half the job. The other half is proving it in the real world.

Pack walks are structured group walks hosted by certified SK9 trainers in parks and trails throughout the Treasure Valley. They are not casual meetups or off-leash dog parks. They are intentional training environments — managed, structured, and focused on building the skills that matter in real life: calm leash behavior, neutrality around other dogs, attention on the handler, and confidence in novel environments.

Why Pack Walks Work

WHAT YOUR DOG
GETS FROM PACK WALKS

Real-World Generalization

Skills learned at home or in a facility need to be tested in the real world to become reliable. Pack walks provide a structured, managed environment to practice in actual parks, trails, and public spaces — the places where your dog's behavior actually matters.

Supervised Exposure to Other Dogs

Walking near other dogs — without greeting, without chaos — is a different skill than what happens in a training room. Pack walks teach dogs to be neutral around other dogs on leash. For reactive dogs especially, this structured exposure is invaluable.

Handler Confidence

Owners get live coaching from an SK9 trainer while walking in a real environment. You learn to read your dog earlier, make better decisions in the moment, and handle your dog with more confidence. The walk trains you as much as it trains your dog.

Community and Accountability

Walking with other SK9 clients creates a sense of community and shared accountability. You see other dogs at different stages of training. You realize you are not alone. And you show up more consistently when there is a group expecting you.

Nervous System Regulation Through Movement

Structured walking — particularly with sniffing opportunities and calm pacing — has a measurable regulating effect on the canine nervous system. Pack walks are not just about obedience. They are about building a calmer, more settled dog through the walk itself.

Progress Visibility

It can be hard to see your own dog's progress when you are in it every day. Pack walks create a recurring, comparable context. When you see your dog walking calmly past three other dogs at 15 feet when two months ago they could not manage 40 feet, that is visible, measurable progress.

Who Pack Walks Are For

Pack walks are designed for dogs who have completed at least one session with Scentsible K9 and have some foundational skills in place. They are not appropriate as a first experience for highly reactive or aggressive dogs.

They work especially well for dogs who are solid at home but struggle in real-world environments — and for owners who want to practice their handling skills with trainer supervision in a real setting.

If you are not sure whether pack walks are right for your dog, book a consultation and we will give you an honest answer.

Common Questions

PACK WALK FAQs

Can I join a pack walk if my dog is reactive?
It depends on where your dog is in their training and how severe their reactivity is. Mildly reactive dogs who have done foundational work with us often do well in pack walks with careful spacing and management. Highly reactive or dog-aggressive dogs are not appropriate for pack walks until more foundation work has been completed. We will give you an honest assessment at your consultation.
Do dogs interact with each other on pack walks?
No. Pack walks are not off-leash play sessions or meet-and-greet events. Dogs walk near each other but do not interact or greet. The goal is neutrality — dogs learning to exist calmly in close proximity to other dogs without reacting or engaging. This is a skill that is far more useful in real life than playing at a dog park.
Where do pack walks take place?
Pack walks rotate through parks and trails throughout the Treasure Valley, including locations in Meridian, Boise, and surrounding areas. We choose environments that match the current skill level of the group — starting with lower-distraction environments and progressing to busier locations as the group advances.
Do I need to be a current client to join a pack walk?
Yes. Pack walks are designed for dogs and owners who have worked with us and have some foundation in the Scentsible Method. This ensures everyone on the walk is working from the same framework and that the environment stays safe and productive for all participants. If you have not worked with us yet, start with a consultation.
