The dog finds the hide, gets the treat, and everyone calls it a success. But the dog was not hunting the odor. They were hunting the food. That difference matters enormously. A dog who genuinely craves the target odor will search with drive, persistence, and independence. A dog who was never fully paired will stall when things get harder.
Intro to Odor is the second course in the Scentsible Detection Method. Your dog comes in already knowing how to hunt. These 6 weeks are about teaching them what to hunt for.
Birch oil is introduced and classically conditioned, always paired with food reward, until the smell of birch creates a genuine dopamine response in your dog. That craving is what makes a detection dog.
In the final two weeks, the alert is shaped. The sit at source is not just a trained behavior. It is your dog telling you they found it. By graduation, some dogs offer the alert without being asked. That is the moment 12 weeks of work builds toward.
Intro to Odor is a standalone group class. It is not part of the SK9 Membership program. You sign up for the class on its own, with no ongoing commitment required.
