STAR Puppy is about how your puppy feels about the world. Fundamental Obedience is about what your dog does when the world gets loud. The socialization window is most open between 8 and 16 weeks, so puppy class is spent building confidence, engagement with you, and calm around other dogs. Manners are in there, but they are not the point. Fundamental Obedience assumes that foundation is already there and builds the skills that have to hold up around distractions: sit, down, place, loose leash walking, and a recall that works outside the house. Rule of thumb: puppy under about five months, start with STAR Puppy. Dog over about six months, or habits already set, start with Fundamental Obedience.
